Licia Albanese was an Italian-born American operatic soprano, noted
especially for her portrayals of the lyric heroines of Verdi and
Puccini. She was a leading artist with the Metropolitan Opera of New
York from 1940 to 1966. She made many recordings and was chairman of the
Licia Albanese–Puccini Foundation, which is dedicated to assisting
young artists and singers. She was also extremely old, 105 at her death
on August 15, 2014, which is why she was on my list. Never heard of her
before, but knew she couldn't last much longer. Godspeed, Licia. Brava,
and thanks for the 6 points.
